Our Philosophy:
We understand that your child comes to us with unique experiences, interests and learning styles. Our goal is to truly know your child well and use this knowledge to guide, support and motivate him or her. We believe that good teaching requires continual professional development, personal reflection and collaboration. We value parent involvement at every level and encourage you to partner with us to give your child the most powerful and joyous learning experience possible.
Behavior
Every student must have the opportunity to achieve his/her potential in a safe, caring environment. This is why we, as a class develop our class rules together on the first day of school. Along with these rules we, as class, also develop rewards and consequences. If a student is going above and beyond following classroom rules he/she will be able to role a die for a reward. If students are having minor difficulties following classroom rules they will be rolling a die for a consequence. For continuous infractions students will be sent to Refocus where they will reflect upon their behavior while filling out a form. Refocus is a school wide behavior system.
For major infractions, an administrator will remove your child and you will be contacted.
~Continuation of behavior issues may result in a school referral.
~ Behavior will be recorded daily in your child’s planner. If no behavior is written then your child had a wonderful day! Please sign this every night.

AR-Accelerated Reader
Students will be assigned an AR range at the beginning of the year. They may choose to read AR books within this range. We will closely monitor AR testing to increase or decrease reading ranges. Students will be responsible for maintaining an AR log at school to keep track of testing and scores. They will be will be acknowledged on a school level for each 25 points earned. Students will be encouraged to start reading chapter books this year. Based on their range, students will work with us to create a personal monthly goal. AR reports will be sent home monthly. AR tests must be passed with a 70% or higher to count and no tests will be deleted. A monthly AR report will be sent home for you to view.
Homework
There will be homework each week on Monday-Thursday evenings. Students are expected to read for at least 20 minutes each night Math is assigned nightly along with any unfinished work from the school day. Homework is due the next morning. All homework will be checked and tracked. Doing homework is your child’s responsibility as he/she is a 3rd grader now. Written homework should take no longer than 30 minutes each night. If you find this is not the case, please call me so we can figure out a solution.

Attendance
It is important that your child attend school everyday. When students are absent they miss crucial learning. It is difficult for students to catch up when they are absent frequently. We understand that illnesses occur and students will need to miss days occasionally, however if students are absent frequently we will be following up to be sure everything is ok. According to district policy students have 2 days per day of absence to make up any missed work.
Communication
Education is a partnership between school and home. Students will be given a planner, it will be going home each night as a communication tools. Please sign each night and return the next day. Any notes from school will be written or stapled into the planner. Feel free to include notes from home as well. Planners will be viewed each day.

Snacks
Students will be permitted to bring a small, healthy snack from home to enjoy each day during our afternoon lessons.
WE will not be passing out a classroom snack this year. So please do not send in a class snack.
If you choose not to send in a snack, that's fine, just know that we will not be providing any snacks this year.
BIRTHDAYS
If your child has a birthday during the year you are welcome to bring a snack that is easy to distribute during recess. Cupcakes, cookies, and juice boxes work well for this, Items must be store bought and parents may drop items off-you cannot stay for the celebrations. School is a place for learning and celebrations may not take up instructional time. If your child has a summer birthday, these will be celebrated in May.
